In the mood of Valentine’s day, I would personally like to extend my truest love to you all. Today, I hope that you would first and foremost, truly appreciate yourself and your unique beauty. Come to the realization that no one in this entire world can love you the way you can love yourself because no one knows you like you know yourself. Above all, remember that God loves you. He loved you even before you were formed in your mother’s womb. He loved you in sin and his love has not changed and will never change. His love is unlike that of the world’s. It is not conditional, but true and pure. God is the owner and the realest definition of love.
My perception of love: Before and After …
Growing up, I had this ideal image of what love was but thank God for growth and new insight. I used to strongly believe that love was simply a strong intense feeling that overpowers our physical being. While this is partially true, this is the least of what love is. I used to think that the way to express love was just through mere words and kind gestures, to say the least. I felt that love was simple and this left me wondering why I was giving my all in relationships (which I now see were not worthwhile) and getting little to nothing in return.
Over the past 3-4 years, my perception of what love is has changed drastically. Where I stand right now is in this: Love is greater than human understanding. The bible tells us that “God is love,” and I like to think of it this way: God is a supernatural being. We can not ever fathom him nor his power in its entirety and the same goes for love. There is power in love, and because we don’t recognize this and are incapable of understanding it, we too often take love for granted and we abuse it.
We all know the famous bible verse, 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7: ” Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. it is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked nor overly sensitive and easily angered; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things regardless of what comes, it believes all things, looking for the best in each other. It hopes all things, remaining steadfast during difficult times, enduring all things without weakening.”
It goes on to say that love NEVER fails, and that of faith, hope and love, the choicest graces, love is the GREATEST.
I think these verses are self explanatory and really show what love truly encompasses. There is no trial and error when it comes to love. If you’re going in make sure that you’re in it for real, don’t start what you can’t finish.
The sacrifice Christ made for you and for me will remain the greatest example of what love is. Through all the pain and the abuse, he didn’t say a word, he stayed and he stuck it out. He paid a price he didn’t owe, all because of his LOVE for US !
“Love is strong as death. Many waters can not quench love, neither can floods drown it.” -Songs of Solomon 8:6-7.
I challenge you all from this day on to love the right way, the way Christ loved. Don’t just love when it feels good. Even through the pain and the trying times, let your love remain steadfast and true. Be with someone you can build with, give your all and never take advantage of others. Love is beautiful, keep it that way.
I just want to give a quick shout out to someone who has been such a great influence in my life. Thank you for loving me and allowing God to use you to shape and steer my perception of love.
